The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap campaign with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The event also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
