Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems impacted the state, bringing strong winds hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were attempting to repair power throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, approximately 1,000 residents in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its wettest day in 18 months.

Emergency response teams handled 598 requests for assistance across the region, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various emergency calls
• Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

At one point on the previous day, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after past events where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the region.
